Coconuts have to be one of the most celebrated foods both in the health world but equally in the media! They have been crowned as a superfood with many health claims and equally as a super fad with a lot of the health claims actually having very little scientific backing!
SO, the question is, what are the health benefits and what are the fake health claims! I want to keep this one short and sweet!
When consuming any whole natural food you’ll certainly reap the benefits of its nutrients and natural healthy food compounds however it’s all about
BALANCE!
Balance is key, any 1 food group in excess can have a negative effect!
I am absolutely not for coconut detoxes, copious amounts of coconut oil and coconut oil flushes ….
BUT yes I love coconuts! When consuming organic ( where possible) natural coconut, whether it’s as an oil, flesh, coconut milk/ water it a big YES from me
In moderation and balance and when choosing UNPROCESSED NATURAL food it’s a winner!
so yes add coconut water into your smoothies to boost hydration
yes cook with coconut oil
yes include coconut flesh
yes apply coconut oil to skin, hair, and teeth.
yes the oil is high in MCTs, a type of fat that your body metabolizes differently than most other fats.
just avoid excess and keep it unprocessed and consume a balanced healthy diet!
fancy making your own milk?
Make your own coconut milk with just water and unsweetened coconut flakes. Heat the water (make sure it doesn’t boil), add the flakes and blend. Pour through a colander to filter out the coconut pulp, then squeeze through a cheesecloth to filter out the smaller pieces of coconut.
